In his bid to enhance academic excellence in his constituency, member representing Ibarapa Central and Ibarapa North Federal Constituency, Hon. (Dr.) Anthony Adebayo, has hosted the second edition of his luncheon organised to honour first-class and distinction graduates in Ibarapa Central and Ibarapa North.
Recall that the honourable lawmaker in 2023 celebrated eight constituents who graduated with first class and distinction in their various tertiary institutions of learning.
In his opening remarks, Hon. Adepoju recounted his experiences before the young scholars, which propelled him to obtain ND, HND, BSc, MSc, MBA, and PhD in his eventful academic journey.
The lawmaker beseeched the exceptional graduates to be flexible in their life pursuits, noting that the distinguished constituents have successfully graduated from school, which they must find a balance with in the real-world sense.
Ibarapakan congratulated the parents of the first class and distinction graduates, adding that their efforts and resources on their children have paid off.
“You cannot manoeuvre your way to graduate with a first class or a distinction; you must be a diligent and outstanding student to achieve that. I am more than happy that the number of the graduates we are celebrating today surpasses the number of first-class and distinction graduates we recorded last year, and this is proof that we are progressing and not retrogressing in our special intervention programmes aimed at putting our region on the map.
The first class and distinction graduates in the constituency rose from eight to eleven in the year 2024, and they are:
Adegoke Asisat Aderike from Ayete (Frist Class, Best Graduating Student, Pharmacology, OOU), Adedeji Damilola Florence from Idere (First Class, Nursing, Uniosun), Deborah Fasina from Igboora, (First Class, English Language, Kwasu), Adeoye Lukman from Igboora (First Class, Information Technology, Bells University), Ebo Grace A. from Idere (First Class, Mechatronics, Abiola Ajimobi Tech. Uni), Okegbenle Benjamin O. from Idere (First Class, Water Resources, Fed. University of Agriculture, Abeokuta), Abegunde Israel O. from Igangan (First Class, English Language, University of Ibadan), Okedepo Martins B. from Igangan (First Class, Food Science and Technology, Abiola Ajimobi Technical University), Akinlabi Ponmile Akinyemi, from Tapa (First Class, Mechanical Engineering, Abiola Ajimobi University), Akande Nafisat Bukola, from Tapa (First Class, Accounting, Obafemi Awolowo University), while the eleventh candidate was absent simply because she is outside the country at the moment.
The lawmaker celebrated the young scholars, emphasising that the real reason behind the luncheon is to assure those who have been very diligent in their studies that their efforts have not gone unnoticed. He said four out of the eight first-class graduates last year have been recommended for different opportunities in the country, assuring that the employment letters of the constituents will be ready in the next few days in top agencies and parastatals of the federal government of Nigeria. Hon. Adepoju promised that he would always be there for the exceptional graduates so that the younger ones in the constituency would be motivated by their impressive academic feats.
The lawmaker also seized the moment to announce Mr. Adejumo Silas and Miss Adeleke Rafiat, studying Petroleum Engineering from the University of Ibadan and Radiography from the University of Lagos, respectively, as the newest additions to the pool of his tuition-free fee beneficiaries in the higher institution of learning throughout the first four years of his tenure.
Commenting on the laudable initiative, Com. Tiamiyu Mumini Bamidele, ASUP Chairman, OYSCATECH, Igboora, appreciated Hon. Adepoju for his indefatigable efforts in enhancing academic excellence in his constituency. According to him, it is very rare to see any constituency in Nigeria of today that is doing the kind of exceptional initiatives that Hon. Adepoju has embarked on since being elected as a parliamentarian in 2023. The ASUP leader remarked that the people of Ibarapa Central and Ibarapa North have been blessed with a leader who is not only after self-aggrandisement but also thorough and unparalleled service to the people of his constituency.
The chairman and his members also awarded the lawmaker with the Progressive Leadership Award for his exemplary leadership style since being elected as a member of the Nigerian House of Representatives.
