A member of the House of Representatives representing Ibarapa Central and Ibarapa North Federal Constituency, Anthony Adebayo Adepoju, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing unresolved internal conflicts and leadership crisis within the party in Oyo State.
In a resignation letter dated May 5, 2026, and addressed to the PDP Chairman of Ward 4, Isale Penbo, Igbo-Ora, the federal lawmaker said the lingering disputes within the party had negatively affected his duties as a legislator and hindered his ability to effectively serve his constituents.
The letter reads:
“Letter of Resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)
I write to tender my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) due to the unresolved internal conflicts that have ravaged the party, not only in my constituency but also across the Pacesetter State in the past few months.
You are aware of my unalloyed loyalty and dedication to the ideals and principles of the PDP since securing the party’s ticket in 2022, which ultimately resulted in my electoral victory in 2023 as the member representing Ibarapa Central and Ibarapa North Federal Constituency in the Nigerian House of Representatives.
To me, the PDP is not just a political party, it is an association in which my father, the late Asiwaju of Igbo-Ora, Dr. Amos Ademola Adepoju, was a founding father in 1998 and also served as its National Financial Secretary between 1999 and 2002.
Therefore, the crisis rocking the party has not only negatively affected my assignment as a federal lawmaker but has also created a deep crack in the leadership of the party, thereby hindering my ability to effectively serve the people of my constituency.
This resignation is made to allow me to focus on the mandate given to me by the people of Ibarapa Central and Ibarapa North and to serve them to the best of my ability.
I regret how this resignation may be received by my millions of followers at home and abroad and I assure everyone that my next political move will be made known in due course.”
The lawmaker, who emerged victorious on the PDP platform during the 2023 general elections, also reflected on his family’s longstanding relationship with the party, noting that his late father, Dr. Amos Ademola Adepoju, was among the founding figures of the PDP and once served as the party’s National Financial Secretary.
Hon. Adepoju’s resignation is expected to generate political reactions within Oyo State, particularly in the Ibarapa axis, as political observers await his next political move ahead of future electoral activities.
