A Prominent theatre practitioner and stakeholders’ advocate, Yemi Amodu, has announced his decision to accept the position of Secretary in the leadership of the Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN), saying the move is aimed at preserving unity within the association while sustaining his vision for a more inclusive and welfare-driven organisation.
In a heartfelt message titled “The Dream Lives On… Why I Accept the Call to Serve,” Amodu said his decision came after deep reflection, prayers, and consultations with members and leaders of the association.
Addressing supporters, including members of KONGE IRE, Team Solutions and the Lagos Foundation, he recalled his long-held aspiration of building a TAMPAN that prioritises the welfare of members, especially those working behind the scenes in the creative industry.
According to him, his vision has always been to establish an association that promotes equity, dignity and improved welfare for all members across the country.
Amodu, however, explained that following appeals from elders within the association to uphold peace and strengthen the unity of TAMPAN, he resolved to step aside from the presidential race and accept the office of Secretary.
He stressed that the presidency may be occupied by only one person at a time, but noted that service to the association can be rendered from different positions.
“The road is only extended, not blocked,” he said, adding that accepting the role of Secretary would ensure that the interests and aspirations of his supporters continue to have representation at the highest decision-making level.
He maintained that walking away from the leadership process would amount to abandoning the collective dream, while remaining within the system offers an opportunity to continue advocating for members.
Amodu pledged to use the office to champion the cause of actors, makeup artists, costume designers, grips, crew members and other professionals whose contributions often go unnoticed.
“I will do everything within my power to ensure your interests are protected. I will be your voice where they thought you had none,” he assured.
He emphasised that although the route to achieving his vision had changed, the ultimate goal of building a better TAMPAN remained unchanged.
“The presidency was one path. The Secretariat is another. But the destination remains the same—a better TAMPAN,” he said.
Calling on members to remain united and committed to the progress of the association, Amodu urged them to move forward with renewed determination.
“The dream did not die. It only changed clothes and the time of its actualisation. Together, we will see it come alive,” he declared.
